A lot of posts taking on behaviors and characteristics of anime characters are about females and the only time we remember to talk about male characters is when we are measuring strength and pitting them against one another, you noticed too right? Well, we have decided to stray from that today and talk about male characters based on different characteristics.
Cute Anime boys
Kawaii; meaning 'lovely', 'loveable', 'cute', or 'adorable' is the culture of cuteness in Japan. Cuteness is a subjective term describing a type of attractiveness commonly associated with youth and appearance mostly common in females. Anime itself has no lack of cute girls but do you know that there are cute boys in anime? Although their cuteness may not be as overloaded as the girls but still some of them are just so cute they’ll have you making the signature ‘awwn’ sound unconsciously. Below is a list of some of the cute boys in anime
1. Juuzou Suzuya
Juuzou Suzuya from the anime Tokyo Ghoul, Juuzou is a Special Class Ghoul Investigator. He has an androgynous appearance but he is in fact a male. At a very young age, Juuzou was taken in by an influential ghoul called Big Madam. She makes him engage in bloody circus shows just to entertain her fellow ghouls. When Big Madam’s den was raided, he was rescued and taken into CCG custody where he was trained to become a Ghoul Investigator; humans who hunt and kill ghouls.
2. Shouyo Hinata
Shouyo Hinata. The main protagonist of the series Haikyuu. Hinata is small and definitely not fit for the game of volleyball but he was inspired by a player nicknamed Little Giant who scores points against players bigger than him. He enrolled in Karasuno High which the Little Giant previously played for and he was given the number 10 shirt which was coincidentally the same number worn by his role model. He plays the position of a middle blocker and he has a friendly rivalry with Tobio Kageyama and aims to surpass him.
3. Aladdin
Aladdin is one of the four Magi in the current era. He is the son of King Solomon and Queen Sheba. His nickname Solomon’s Proxy indicates that he strongly resembles his father who was said to be the strongest Magi. Aladdin is kind, cheerful and cherishes his friends a lot. He is a little naïve about the ways of the world because he was raised in a secluded area. He is quite wise and smart for his age as he can stay calm during dangerous situations and think up a plan. He is small but according to Alibaba, he has “manly interests” as he like groping women with large and soft breasts. Throughout the series, we see Aladdin travel together with the lady Morgiana and his friend Alibaba.
4. Nagisa Shiota
Nagisa is the main protagonist of the anime Assassination Classroom. Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High; a class of failures has been tasked with killing their teacher Koro-sensei who is not human, failure to complete this mission before a said date will result in the destruction of the earth. Now the students have to balance their education with consecutive assassination attempts. Nagisa looks feminine especially with his long hair and this is a result of his mother wanting a female child, when she gave birth to a boy, she treated him like a girl from little, even giving him a female name. Even his classmates have their doubts about his gender with Karma; his frenemy always teasing him because of this fact. However, in class 3-E, Nagisa shows the most talent as an assassin.
Brave Anime boys
Courage (also called bravery or valor) is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. Valor is courage or bravery, especially in battle. This character is generally common to most protagonists, I don’t remember there being an anime where the characters run from battle all the way through the series. This characteristic is not only displayed in action, adventure animes but we have this concept in the slice of life and romance, it takes courage to take that one big step that will change your life and it confessing to your love interest definitely requires bravery, here is a list of brave and courageous anime characters from action to romance
1. Gon Freecs
Gon is the main protagonist of the anime Hunter x Hunter. The series follows his trials as he grew from an ordinary boy into one of the Hunter association’s assets. His main motivation for becoming a hunter was to find his father who he discovered was not dead after been told otherwise. His time living in the woods has left him with sharper and keen senses. His personality is the kind that makes him to be loved by protagonists and villains alike. Even though he is just a kid, as a hunter, Gon has come face to face with death countless times but he always managed to scale through.
2. Eren Yeager
Eren is the main protagonist of the trending series Attack on Titan. Titans are gigantic humanoid that seems to eat humans on sight for no reason leaving the rest of surviving humans to live behind enormous walls. After watching his mother being devoured by a titan, Eren vowed to eliminate all titans. This vow prompts him to join the Survey Corps alongside his friends Mikasa and Armin. During one of their mission, Eren got swallowed by a titan on unintentionally shapeshifted into a titan. After awakening the Attack Titan, Eren was able to fight on equal grounds with other titans. He currently possesses two other titans; the Founding Titan which has the ability to control all other titans and the War Hammer Titan which can transform parts of its body into weapons.
3. Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto is a character that definitely needs no introduction. Naruto has to be Anime’s bravest character as he is rarely scared of his opponents and pushes through all obstacles. Even if the opponent manages to rattle him, once he gets his bearing just know that the opponent is in for a beating ‘believe it!’. Known as the ‘No 1 Unpredictable Ninja’, as at the end of Naruto: Shippuden, Naruto has become the strongest shinobi to ever live “…surpassing all previous Hokages in strength and stupidity”
4. Sakuta Azusagawa
Sakuta is the main male protagonist of ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai’ anime. He is the perfect example of what I mentioned in the introduction. Sakuta has and is aware of others that have the Adolescence Syndrome; a condition that causes the carrier to be invisible and forgotten by people. He noticed Mai Sakurajima who also has this syndrome. He repeatedly yelled her name and tells her he loves her just to make people acknowledge the both of them an act that earned him a slap!
Funny Anime Boys
People of all ages and cultures respond to humor and if there is one thing that is predominantly common in animes, it would be comedy. Even the most serious animes will still have comic reliefs and we all love those angry signs and question marks that come out from the characters while their heads morph into different shapes that crack us up every time. Have you ever seen a character speaking seriously and even got you into the mood of the conversation only to discover that the person they are speaking to has some kind of confused or a ‘meh’ face? There’s no way you won’t switch from the serious face even you had and we have taken the liberty of compiling some of the funniest characters who just stump common sense.

Meliodas is the main male protagonist of the anime Nanatsu no Taizai (Seven Deadly Sins) and while he might look like a kid in his teens, this guy is actually 3000+ years old. He is the demon king’s eldest son, former leader of the 10 commandments; a group of immensely powerful demons that work under the Demon Lord, and currently the captain of the Seven Deadly Sin. He bears the Dragon Sin of Wrath due to him destroying a whole country in an outburst of anger. He is cursed with immortality because he fell in love with an angel (Demons and Angels are nemeses in the series).
2. Saitama
Saitama also called One Punch is the main protagonist of the anime One Punch Man. He trained himself until his hair fell off and he became bald and now, all he needs is one punch to defeat any opponent no matter how strong something he dislikes since he can no longer feel the thrill of battle. As a child, Saitama was an enthusiastic fan of heroes and wished to be one himself. After saving a child from a crab mutant, he made a decision to become a hero for fun. He was later encouraged to join the Heroes Association by his ‘disciple’ Genos who was an A-class hero at the time. He started out as C class even though he was very strong this was because he failed woefully in the mental test. Currently, Saitama is ranked 7th in B class
3. Saiki Kusou
Saiki Kusou has all kinds of psychic abilities, he can shapeshift, teleport, read minds, and a lot more others. He is the main character of the anime The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. He wears a control device on both sides of his head, they act as a limiter to control his powers, his green-tinted glasses are to prevent any from being exposed to his direct stare which can obliterate anyone literally. In the beginning, he is always seen alone, this was because he doesn’t want to attract attention because of his powers. Most of the time Kusuo is selfless as he doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice his own happiness for other’s sake. He is actually very responsible as he doesn’t misuse his abilities, he is capable of cheating in exams without being noticed but he just studies, he could get whatever he wants without money but we see him save up money to get whatever he needs. As the story progress, he grew from someone who is always alone to someone who has friends, he trusts them enough to tell them about his psychic powers but he did not.
4. Sakamoto
The main protagonist of the anime ‘Haven’t you Heard, I’m Sakamoto’. Sakamoto is perfect beyond human standards. He is known for being calm, cool, and collected all the time. He is a flawless genius who is loved by students and teachers. He manages to get into different hilarious situations with his classmates and he always comes out looking even cooler. He manages to look at everything he does, be it reading, sitting, even when he was to stand in the hall. His given name is something that was not mentioned in the entire series, when a classmate asked him for it, it was censored and even she couldn’t hear it leaving her to believe that it could not be said on-air.
Cool anime boys
Where there is a stupid, strong, and rowdy character, there is a smart, strong, and cool character. Coolness is an aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance, and style which is generally admired. Because of the varied and changing connotations of cool, as well as its subjective nature, the word has no single meaning. It has associations of composure and self-control, they don't get jealous they're independent, they're happy in their own company, they're comfortable with who they are. ... they are confident in their abilities, if not over-confident. Lovers of animes would agree that these characters if not the male lead themselves exist to control and contrast the male character.
1. Deidara
Deidara is one of the villains in the anime Naruto. Everyone who has watched Naruto knows better than to tell this guy his art is flawed, he just shouts ‘explode’ and you’re a goner. Deidara is able to detonate clay because of the forbidden justu he practiced. This was also why he has mouths in both palms as he uses them to supplement his detonating clay. He is a powerful ninja able to fight toe to toe with Sasuke with the latter having to run for his life when Deidara detonated himself to prove his art.
2. Kaneki
Kaneki is the main protagonist of the series Tokyo Ghoul. He was just an ordinary student and a normal human boy, but he was involved in an accident with a ghoul seeing as the ghoul died but he could still survive, doctors whether knowingly or unknowingly had a ghoul organ transplanted into him, turning him into half ghoul-half human. At first, he is a shy boy who refused to accept his ghoul side he was later recruited into ‘Anteiku’ an organization that shelters ghouls. He spends most of his time working at the ghoul restaurant and when he wasn’t working, he picks up books and reads. His hair was originally black but when he was captured by an enemy group and tortured by one of their operatives Jason, he finally embraced his ghoul self, gaining enough power to turn the table, his hair turned white and he ruthlessly killed Jason. Kaneki is currently one of the most powerful ghouls in the series.
3. Sinbad
Sinbad is former king of Shindra. He is a major character in Magi: Labyrinth of Magic and the main character of Adventures of Simbad. He is a dungeon conqueror and has lots of vessels.Dungeons are dangerous and mysterious buildings controlled by a Djinn, clearing a dungeon would bestow such a person with riches and power. Sinbad is a tall and muscular man with tan skin. He wears a lot of jewelry most of which are Metal Vessels (objects that contain Djinns). Due to being one of the most powerful Magis, Sinbad can be quite laidback and doesn’t take things too seriously but despite all this, he can be serious when he wants to. Sinbad has a special ability that lets him see the flow of destiny and as a result, he is quite arrogant, believing others to be lesser.
4. Shoto Todoroki
Todoroki, a student at U.A an academy that trains heroes. His hair is evenly split into two colors due to his quirk ‘half cold-half hot’ which allows him to generate heat and cold from his body. He has a large burn scar on his face which reaches down to halfway down his cheek and always wears a serious expression. He is the youngest son of the hero Endeavor who is currently the number 1 hero after All Might retired. Todoroki has a deep hatred for his fire abilities, this is as a result of his father treating him as a tool to surpass All Might. His first hero costume consists of an ice casing that covers his entire left side, this is just to reject his fire abilities and a sign of rebellion. Izuku’s supportive speech later got to him as he decided to use his firepower in their fight at the U.A Sports Festival.
Intelligent Anime boys
Intelligence has been defined in many ways: the capacity for logic and understanding, self-awareness, adaptation, reasoning, planning, scheming, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. More generally, it can be described as the ability to perceive or infer information and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors. They possess great thinking prowess that allows to quickly analyze their surrounding and choose the best course of action. We are not talking about special abilities that allow one to enhance their intelligence, we are talking about pure high IQ and thinking prowess. Have you heard of a certain guy that is creating modern-day technology in a stone world with nothing but stones and other raw materials that only science people can comprehend? Well here are another list of people who can convince and confuse you with their way of thinking.
1. Ayanokoji Kiyotaka
Ayanokoji is from the anime Classroom of the Elite. He is shown to express a carefree and idle look, which suggests an unconcerned attitude. This can be interpreted as indifference. He does not seem to want to extend his energy unnecessarily in other matters. He is also extremely intelligent. He is enrolled in the Advanced Nurturing School. It is a school established by the government to nurture people who will support the future of the country. It boasts a 100% employment and college entry rate ‘if you managed to pass’. This school is strictly for inhumane geniuses. The students are tested regularly, in formal tests or informal. Ayanokoji’s grades are average at best and this is as a result of him not wanting to draw attention. He got into the school by scoring 50% in all test subjects and a lot of people have begun to suspect that his abilities are above average. Ayanokoji is socially awkward and poor at communicating with people, he sometimes speaks slowly and tends to isolate himself. He is shrewd and wouldn’t hesitate to use people as he generally sees people as tools, we would later learn that this is as a result of his upbringing.
2. Ishigami Senku
Senku is the main protagonist of Dr. Stone and is friends with Taiju and Yuzuriha. He is known for his catchphrases, one of which is "Ten Billion Percent" which is used to prove his confidence. He was de-petrified half a year before Taiju was, and eventually created the Revival Fluid with Taiju's help. In the Stone World, Senku established a Kingdom of Science with aim of rebuilding civilization. He is a straightforward, confident and highly logical individual. As a positive trait, Senku never demeans anyone who is less knowledgeable instead encouraging and inspiring them. He works together with Chrome, Kohaku, Kinro, Ginro, Gen, Suika and the old but energetic Kaseki.
3. Ranpo Edogawa
Ranpo is a member of the Armed Detective Agency; a group focused on solving crimes that are too difficult or violent for the metropolitan police. The group contains different individuals with special abilities that aid them in the field. Ranpo, despite not being an ability user, is known as one of the best detectives highly sought by the police, renowned by his comrades, himself, and others as the "greatest detective in the world." It is revealed that he is able to deduce everything simply due to his own extraordinary intelligence as he does not possess an ability. He is aware but refuses to admit that he has no special ability. He is known to be able to solve cases with just the littlest hint, such as when he deduced that the police officer working on a murder case alongside him was the culprit just by asking a few unrelated questions. He solved this in a matter of minutes even though the police were about to close the case due to lack of evidence.
4. Ye Xiu/Ye Qiu/Lord Grim
Ye Xiu is more of a tactician/strategist. He is an Esports player of Glory; an MMORPG. He is the former user of One Autumn Leaf; a 'God-level' account. He was also the captain of Happy and is the current user of Lord Grim an unspecialized character that can use skills from all other classes. He is currently the leader of the Chinese Glory Team, he took no account card to the tournament, but fills in for anyone who is unable to play, which proves that he is able to play any character and any class. One should know that there are 24 classes in Glory each with different commands and control, yet he is able to fit and adapt to all playing styles. Ye Xiu is known as the 'Glory Textbook' as well as one of the Four Master Tacticians.
Conclusion
You would agree that everyone who is on any of the lists above is worth it. Anime has opened our eyes to a new world frankly speaking, there are characters that have been drawn from real people so coming across a character you can relate with, isn't something that should be surprising.
